The Beginning

Pickleball Squamish was established in response to a surge in interest in the Sea to Sky Corridor regarding Pickleball as a new sport. Brennan Park Recreation Centre and the Activity 55 Centre both report an almost daily inquiry into possible pickleball facilities and club, and an initial group of interested individuals soon found over 40 people joining regularly for drop-in pickleball games. A group of those initial participants decided to form a club to promote the interests of pickleball players in the community, by:

  1. promoting the creation of permanent and dedicated pickleball courts available to the entire community;

  2. coaching and teaching pickleball to new interested players;

  3. enabling competitive tournaments on a periodic basis;

  4. facilitating social and recreational interactions between youth, seniors and families; and

  5. establishing Pickleball as a viable sport in the Sea to Sky Corridor.

Pickleball has grown in popularity in Squamish among players of all ages. Pickleball Squamish was formed in 2019 as a non-profit organization, focused on encouraging the sport in the Sea-to-Sky communities. Current membership of Pickleball Squamish is over 80 players, with the list of interested people rapidly growing now that Squamish has dedicated courts without playing time restrictions. The demographic of those interested in PB in Squamish is wide ranging , and includes participants ranging in age from 10 to 83.

During the winter of 2018-2019, our volunteers coached students from Don Ross Middle School, and temporary nets have since been purchased by the school. Pickleball has been added to the Phys. Ed Curriculum, because of the positive response of the students.
